Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA)

The OFA organization’s objective is to establish control programs to lower the incidence of inherited disease. They serve all breeds of dogs and cats and provide breeders with a means to respond to the challenge of improving their breed's genetic health through better breeding practices.

Overview

The OFA continues to focus on hip and elbow dysplasia and patella luxation. Today’s mission, “To improve the health and well-being of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease,” reflects the organization’s expansion into other inherited diseases and companion animals such as cats.

Radiographs are forwarded to the OFA, where board-certified radiologists will evaluate and grade your pet's hips and/or elbows for dysplasia and patella luxation for OFA certification.
